I was asked to be present at a birth on Thursday, April 17, 2003. This was the third birth for this young woman. Her first two experiences were extremely painful. I was called at 2 pm by her husband, who confirmed she was in labour and in the hospital, and could I make my way into town?
When I arrived at the hospital she was experiencing quite a bit of discomfort and extreme back pain. I induced a state of hypnosis and also gave her Reiki on her lower back. The combination put her to sleep. She remained calm and happy between contractions and only experienced pain when the head presented.
The doctor and nurses couldn’t believe she was in labour! It was a wonderful experience. It is always a privilege to be present at a birth and although I have had that privilege many times, this is the first time the mother named her child after me!
The hypnosis and Reiki brought a calm energy into the room that touched everyone present, even the husband was calm.
On Good Friday I visited the mother and baby in the hospital and gave Reiki to the baby. I was surprised at the amount of energy that the baby took, especially through her back. I began thinking about how traumatic the birth experience must be for the baby. No wonder they cry!
The Reiki treatment on baby made her very comfortable and peaceful. The mother called a week later to say the baby continues to be relaxed and at peace. The mother has her first level of Reiki.
